VOGONS Vintage Driver Library

This is a collection of drivers for vintage hardware, as collected and contributed by the upstanding members of the VOGONS Forums.

This site was created by members of the VOGONS forum, which is a discussion board created to provide technical support for the open source DOSBox package, which enables the running of vintage IBM PC video games on modern computers and operating systems.

A secondary purpose of the forum is to discuss the building, running, and maintaining of vintage computer hardware, for the purpose of playing vintage IBM PC games in a period-accurate, native environment. To configure these vintage computer systems, the appropriate software device drivers are required.

Unfortunately, many hardware vendors from the time periods in question either no longer exist, or no longer support what they call "legacy" hardware. This is where VogonsDrivers.com steps in. We collect and catalogue device drivers and utility software for vintage hardware, preserving the software for future generations, and assisting anybody wishing to build or service an old computer.

Even though these device drivers and utilities are copyrighted works, we believe that archiving and making available this kind of software constitutes "fair use" in the United States, where the service is hosted. Specifically, we believe that the factors for "fair use" as specified in Fair-Use Statute Section 107 are satisfactorily considered. These factors are:

  • The purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes. The nature of the VogonsDrivers.com site is as a nonprofit educational resource.
  • The nature of the copyrighted work. The copyrighted work is in the form of device drivers and related utilities. These works are of no use or value unless an individual also posesses the related hardware.
  • The amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole. The amount is generally the whole copyrighted work, in that a complete image of the original installation media is usually provided. The copyrighted work is not disassembled or modified.
  • The effect of the use upon the potential market for, or value of, the copyrighted work. The potential market for a device driver and utility disk is limited to owners of the relevant hardware device. The value of the copyrighted works is as a requisite for the functioning of the relevant hardware device. In addition, the copyrighted works are currently, or were previously freely available (gratis) from the copyright holders, either online, through BBS systems, or on physical media included with hardware devices.

If something breaks, get in contact with SquallStrife via PM on the VOGONS Forums and we'll fix it as quickly as possible.
